I suppose you are wondering why we want more bricks in our hay, let alone any at all. We don't want the bricks used for building a chimney. We prefer the BRIX (what is high brix) that measures the carbohydrate level in plant juices.
To accomplish this we no longer use common commercial fertilizers. Instead, we are GROWING our soil by using a high grade calcium, a high grade phosphorus, sugar, and fish fertilizer to grow a healthier crop for better insect and disease tolerance for minimal pesticide use. We have yet to use any on a standing crop though. A healthy soil also stimulates the beneficial microorganisms that mother nature created centuries ago. In turn, our hay will be rich with the minerals and nutrients that your animals need for good health and better milk production. Treat your animals to roughage the way mother nature intended. Another note of importance I would like to address, we do not grow any GMO modified alfalfa on our farm. The majority of our crop is South Dakota grown seed from a certified seed producer.
